The most successful songwriter of all time yet never made a penny from Royalties!

OK so the other day I was thinking about writing a song, and suddenly I was thinking about all the great songwriters who have lyric after lyric line after line, passing through the minds of simple people singing shouting, tweeting, texting there lyrics enthusiastically. So what is it that actually makes a good song GREAT? I'm going to use who I would call the greatest songwriter ever as the backdrop for my tips, and before you ask I do not profess to be a novice at this.

OK so he pretty much wrote 100's of songs so what were the secrets to his success and how can we mere students apply these.

He wrote truthful lyrics
whether its a failed relationship that was all your fault that it broke, David wrote with truth. Psalms  opens with this "Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy upon me and hear my prayer.
Here we see he was totally and utterly desperate and wasn't afraid to let the world know it, somehow we connect and relate to truth good/bad, we somehow feel as though the songwriter feels our pain and that were not alone, it makes us vulnerable yes, but the audience falls in love with that vulnerability just like two lovers in a movie scene, were suckers yes!

He wrote selflessly

His ultimate goal was reconciliation and inner piece, he wrote about when he was wrong more than when he was right. He wanted Gods peace and forgiveness.

He wrote for his audience, God, us, the people.

His lyrics display the utmost respect for a Holy God, and his constant need for redemption, when the owness is taken off the writer and placed on someone/something else we see the person has other relationships good/bad and we identify with them. We want to hear about when you failed, when things didn't go the way you wanted, when you couldn't sleep because of a broken heart. We want the nitty gritty with no detail spared. We want a picture in our minds that lasts forever.

He wrote through his own pain

Alot of the time this is the hardest time to write when your life's all wrong and messed up. You feel empty inside but there's something about those lyrics that hit the core of mankind's being and helps them to look to a Holy God in times of trouble. Ps 31 17 "Let the lying lips be put to silence which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous". David feared for his life several times and yet communicated the deep sorrow, pain in his heart and turned it into sweet music, the medicine to the soul.

AND YET MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SING, READ, WRITE , PREACH HIS LYRICS EVERYDAY WITHOUT THE NEED FOR PRS TO BE INVOLVED LOL.......

GET GOSPEL MUSIC AT THE MOBO'S 2012!

 The Petition

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gospelmusicmobos/signatures

So in 2011 I had the idea to start this petition independantly, so far we have collected 200+ names from both online and hand written signatures, we stil;l have a long way to go to the 10,000 mark, please help us!!!

Thanks for clicking the link and being interested enough to find out why someone would believe in something enough to actually do something about it.
So for the 1st time ever I decided to watch the first half of the MOBO'S to watch my brother Triple O, pick up his well deserved Mobo in the Gospel category, well done to him and all the other nominees. But what struck me after watching several distasteful, average performances was the fact that its celebrating Music of Black origin without having the basic foundation for Black music present "GOSPEL MUSIC" Its actually unbelievable and so I've decided that before the next MOBO'S slaps us in the face and people complain once again to try and do something about it.
Gospel music is rich powerful and without it today's music is just a blank canvas. If you wanna be or see the change please join me in signing this petition this will be forwarded to the MOBOS Founder Kanya King alongside an official letter, and hopefully one of our amazing Gospel artists will be able to bring a true representation of Music of Black Origin whilst also presenting the Gospel relevantly!

Here's the link to sign now!

I'd rather be average than Sexy!

So I'm sat on the train on my way to Luton for 2days of songwriting and recording. I totally love my job and rarely see it as work apart from some of the crazy early mornings I have. On the way to the station I've probably scanned 10's of posters, billboards, ads, marketing the 2011 almost 12 woman, in what seems to attract men and women to buy into the fact that she is oh so perfect and desirable. Whether it's to be her (for the woman)or to have her for the man. Recently I was thinking about all the programmes that are on our screens and the silly ads trying to market their latest perfume or their newest hair colour. One thing that is thrown in our faces is a half naked women seducing her man or well paid actor all for some hair dye or scent. I mean i think its totally ridiculous but the fact Is this world and all it's connotations is selling billions of products because of Sex! Which brings me to my point of this blog. As a woman i want to be valued and loved for who I am not my gender, my curves, or my bum. ( butt for you Americans). I hate when some brother thinks he has lyrics and says your so sexy. Sexy suggests I've revealed something of myself that was supposed to be hidden for my husband. Sexy suggests I need you to notice me by the way I dress. I know the ads fuel men's desires and that you guys are trained to look at us ladies but, please if you can try and avoid that word. We are not for sale, we want to be adored and loved not seen as sexual objects. Don't follow the pattern of the world cos it's not what very woman wants to hear. Let us be valued for the person we are not the physique we display. And to my younger girls looking sexy is not the way forward whether the media says so or your friends say so, sexy comes from the word sex so if you want to be displaying an image that causes men to see you in that way than look in your wardrobe and see just what needs to go. To my brothers try calling her gentle, beautiful, gorgeous, kind.

Peace and love.xx

5 months before I hit 30!!

5 months before I hit 30!!

Ok so i'm five months away from turning 30. Yikes...... I cant actually belive i've been living on planet earth (most of the time) for this long. Most people feel down and depressed about growing older but im learning to live life and take it by the horns!! At the start of the  year I created an interesting list of things I want to do before the big  turn of the decade starts. So here it is.

1. Bake something
2.Travel to the US for my birthday (at least 2 weeks)
3. Goto the cinema by myself (never done that before)
4. have a health spa day
5. Visit the theatre
6. Visit a new town/city in the uk
7. Finish and release my 2nd album

So there you have it just a few things I wanted to personally achieve. I think in life you must count the experiences along the way not just the destination. I am thankful to God for the trials and the joys these 29 have brought me and im ready to see what the next 30 will hold. Watch this space and keep living.xx
